History of Grama Panchayat
Vazhayur is a region with a rich social and cultural heritage. From the period of the Chera kings, the area held importance for local assemblies and regional administrative systems, and later developed as part of the rule of the Zamorins. Agriculture, trade, handicrafts, and the library movement greatly contributed to the social progress of Vazhayur. Even during the period of the landlord-tenant system, the region witnessed notable advancements in education, medicine, and Kalaripayattu. The people of Vazhayur actively participated in the 1921 Malabar Rebellion and the Indian freedom struggle.
